Google Bets $15 Billion on India’s AI Future with New Visakhapatnam Hub
Alphabet's Google is committing $15 billion to establish a major AI and data center hub in Visakhapatnam, India, marking its largest such investment outside the U.S. The five-year project, spearheaded by Google Cloud CEO Thomas Kurian, will add 1 gigawatt of data capacity to Andhra Pradesh's tech infrastructure through three planned campuses.
The deal follows extended negotiations with local officials, with Andhra Pradesh's Minister for Human Resources Development calling it a foundational step in India's digital growth. Google's expanded $85 billion global capex plan reflects intensifying demand for cloud and AI infrastructure, with $25 billion earmarked for U.S. data centers alone.
